HOW DOES TWITTER WORK? IS IT WORTH THE HYPE?

That\'s a question that every newbie asks. Twitter has evolved from being a status-communicating medium to an aggressive money making social media application. The user interface has simultaneously evolved to cater to the needs of these social media and internet marketers and thus the interests of the commoners has been ignored. It is for this reason that twitter users are shifting to other services like http://bwjams.com  and plurk.com

BWJAMS, a product of http://blogertizeworld.com (a low cost blog advertising network) has some features which outdoes twitter. Twitter, which is filled with big corporate house representatives and internet marketers, allows users to post a message which can be up to 140 characters in length.. BWJAMS, on the other hand caters to the needs of common internet users/bloggers who intend to socialize with users from all over the world. Unlike Twitter, BWJAMS is not only a 140 character text/SMS post portal. It allows users to update status (other wise known as JAMS) and also allows them to post videos and images by just placing the link and posting their JAM. BWJAMS grabs the video/image for the site mentioned by the user and displays the same automatically. It also allows users to share other resources (including pdf files, excel sheets, ebooks, word docs, powerpoint presentations etc) using the attachment option along with their JAMS which is restricted to a 200 character limit. The user interface is quite easier to understand and that\'s one of the reasons, it is attracting social media enthusiasts and bloggers. The network has grown to over 5,000 members within the first 2 months of launch

On the other hand, Plurk is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send updates (otherwise known as plurks) through short messages or links, which can be up to 140 text characters in length.
Updates are then shown on the user\'s home page using a timeline which lists all the updates received in chronological order, and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. Users can respond to other users\' updates from their timeline through the Plurk.com website, by instant messaging, or by text messaging. Though theres not much of a difference between Plurk and Twitter, Plurk scores with a refreshing look which is attracting internet socializers
